My Summer Internship at EVS: Reflections on Learning, Office Culture, and Really Good Coffee.

EVS has a kind of lightheartedness, and an environment where you can be half-laughing in the kitchen one minute and laser focused on a project the next.

When I first joined EVS as a summer intern, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I had a general idea of what marketing looked like, a mix of content, strategy, maybe some social media, but nothing prepared me for the amount of learning, fun, and genuine connection I’d experience in just a few weeks.

What stood out to me the most wasn’t just the work (though I’ll get to that). It was the people. EVS has a kind of lightheartedness, and an environment where you can be half-laughing in the kitchen one minute and laser focused on a project the next. EVS is welcoming, collaborative, and full of personality. I’ll admit, I came in expecting some parts to feel a little duller, and I was perfectly okay with that. But amidst the jokes, the amazing people and coffee, I can say genuinely that I would come back in a heartbeat.

What I Learned at EVS (besides how much coffee the team drinks)

Over the course of my internship, I worked on LinkedIn campaigns, newsletters, testimonial posts, furnishing rooms, and blog drafts. I even had the chance to shadow the sales and paid ads teams, as well as shadowing different departments in real-time to see what role each person had to play. I had the chance to listen to important business decisions being made, both large and small, and got to hear about EVS’s partnership with Water First.

One highlight for me is having the opportunity to help kick off EVS’s first-ever LinkedIn series, #EVSClientSuccessStories, shaping the early testimonial content that celebrated real client wins. Another was reading and writing about EVS’s trip to Colombia. It wasn’t just about capturing where the coffee comes from, it was about capturing the connection between farmers, land, and the Nespresso brand. That project taught me how powerful storytelling can be when it’s rooted in real experiences, and it gave me a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into every cup of coffee, inspiring me to give back in my own way too.

Outside of writing, I even helped furnish the upstairs fun room, everything from sourcing pieces to giving ideas of how the finished space should look, which really taught me hands on how much thought goes into building a space, and let alone one that feels fun and collaborative. Every project, whether digital or hands on, pushed me to think more intentionally, work more independently, and trust my creative judgment.

But beyond just writing, I learned how to:

  • Communicate clearly and with purpose (turns out a good headline is an art form),
  • Think from the perspective of a brand, not just a consumer,
  • Ask better questions and be curious, even about the small things,
  • Collaborate with people who have completely different roles (and learn from them),
  • Take feedback and learn how to apply it without taking it personally. (shoutout to Jason for teaching me this)

Throughout my internship, I got to explore a variety of creative and strategic projects, from writing newsletters and blog posts to shadowing sales enablement, paid ads, and learning tools like Mailchimp.  I also contributed to a piece on the EVS team’s trip to Colombia, which deepened my understanding of how Nespresso’s storytelling can connect people, products, all with purpose.

I’ve learned how much workplace culture matters, and that I do my best work in environments that are collaborative, and energized, yet still focused.

What I've learned from this internship that I can use in future

This internship gave me more than just technical skills it gave me clarity. I learned how to think like a brand, not just a consumer, and how to communicate ideas that are both strategic and creative. These skills will be invaluable whether I’m designing campaigns, writing content, or collaborating across departments in future roles. I now understand the importance of asking the right questions, applying feedback thoughtfully, and creating work that connects with people.

Most importantly, I’ve learned how much workplace culture matters, and that I do my best work in environments that are collaborative, and energized, yet still focused, it shows that being productive doesn’t mean being serious 24/7. In fact, some of my best work came from environments where I felt relaxed, supported, with just enough background chatter and liveliness. This role gave me the creative space to figure out where my passion is. I learned that I love to design and write, it makes me feel fueled, and excited to do more. It gave me the insight to know where I want to grow in the future, and my weak points. EVS has shown me firsthand what community can be; its people showing up, being a team, but still being able to hold space for both downtime and jokes.

What's next?

While I’m sad to be wrapping up, I feel more prepared and inspired than ever. I’ve gained skills, clarity and some amazing mentors and memories along the way. I want to send out a huge thank you to the EVS team for trusting me, teaching me, and inspiring me to do more, the EVS way!

Until next time …
